It is a Spanish island and is considered the second largest and oldest of the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean.
The unique contours of Fuerteventura are a result of various volcanic eruptions from the past, the last one being more than 7,000 years ago.
Its climate is semi-desert, very similar to the African Coast. Since the establishment of the first tourist hotel on the island in 1965, it has held a place as a major European holiday destination.

The Fuerteventura beaches are some of the most impressive in Europe.

The northern beaches are best for swimming because of their calm waters. The north western part of the coast caters more to surfers as the waters and waves tend to be rougher.
Prevailing winds make for excellent surf conditions in the area, making it an internationally renowned wind and kite surfing spot.
The western coast is entirely unspoiled. ?This area may not be 100 percent safe for swimmers though and caution should be taken when swimming there.
Nightlife in Fuerteventura
The liveliest nightlife in Fuerteventura is in Corralejo that is located in the northern part of the island. Night time entertainments as well as local fiestas are not to be missed here.
Bars are crowded along the coast and around the harbours, as are the number of restaurants which can be found here, most notably selling Canarian dishes, usually seafood. ?
International dishes can be found in some selected restaurants only. Atlantico and El Naufragio are a couple of the popular restaurants in Fuerteventura.
